Ciel et Bois is on 6 acres of wooded land. It’s just 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Take to the trails of neighbouring Nakkertok nordic ski club and Kanawe mountain bike centre. Bond around the flickering fire. Lose yourself (or connect with your inner self) in a quiet nook or in a hammock.

You’ll find the cottage to be spacious and clean. It’s well-stocked with everything you might need for your group. You can also host day-events and retreats here for up to 30 people. See events and gatherings.

About the cottage

The space was created by local upcycler and designer Karen Charron of @brokanta. Thoughtfully designed for group gatherings, it’s got the perfect mix of modern amenities and country charm.

A common reaction when people roll up the driveway is: “What a beautiful property.” You’ll be surrounded by nature. It’s a peaceful place to stay. Inside, dine at the oversized farmhouse table. Watch the winter from the solarium. Play games or relax in the comfortable walk-out basement.

Ciel et Bois means ‘sky and woods,’ and you’ll see why. Your group can enjoy time together on the sprawling lawn, surrounded by mature trees. Escape onto the trails for a tranquil walk—or go for an exhilarating ski, run, or bike.

The main floor is mostly ‘open concept’ with the kitchen, dining room, and living room (solarium) all flowing into each other.

The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, utensils, knives, a coffee maker, and appliances. It has everything you need to cook your own meals for a large group or to have a chef or caterer come in and use the facilities.

The 2 bedrooms on the main floor each have a queen bed. The living room / solarium has a pullout couch.

There are 2 full bathrooms on the main floor, one with a bath/shower combo, and one that is wheelchair accessible with a large, nice shower.

The basement has 2 bedrooms: one with 2 custom bunk beds (4 single beds total) and the other with 4 single beds (these can be pushed together to make 2 larger beds).

The basement also has a main lounging area with a wood-burning stove and comfy seating where people can gather, connect, relax, and play games. There’s a pullout couch here as well.

The basement has 2 full bathrooms (one with a walk-in shower and one with a bath-shower combo) and a laundry room.

There’s also a kitchenette/bar in the basement where you can make coffee, tea, and other beverages, as well as snacks.

Outside the front door, you’ll find a covered BBQ area where you can grill up a storm.

A big highlight is always the fire pit, with surrounding seating on benches and Muskoka chairs.

There’s a large lawn that’s great for an assortment of lounging and games, including bocce ball, badminton, volleyball, and tetherball.

You can explore the woods on a 700m path (10 – 15 minute stroll) that meanders through the maples, oaks, and white pines. The trail to Nakkertok branches off from here, where you can set off for a longer adventure.

We’ve scattered hammocks and Muskoka chairs at choice spots, and we’ll leave it to you to discover these.

Your hosts at Ciel et Bois are Hayley, Victoria, Ian, Karen, Ryan, Letha, and Danny, who also run the adventure and training company Boreal River. We love connecting with people and providing incredible hospitality experiences.

Throughout your stay, you’ll have our support, and we’ll be available by text message and phone. Contact us with any questions. We don’t live on-site, but we have staff nearby in Gatineau and Ottawa.
